What It Really Means to Serve on the Reunion POA Board

Serving on the Reunion Property Owners Association (POA) Board is both a privilege and a responsibility. It takes time, patience, and a genuine love for this community to do well. To be eligible, you must be a property owner in Reunion. While that is the only formal requirement, it is not something we recommend jumping into right after moving in. Reunion is a big, complex community with many moving parts, and it helps to have a few years of residency before stepping into a leadership role. Understanding the rhythm of the neighborhood, how the POA and developer work together, and how the community functions day to day takes time.

Each board member serves a three-year term, with the third year as President. By the time you reach year three, you are just starting to see how all the pieces fit together, which is why we love when someone is willing to stay involved beyond their initial term. It takes time to fully understand the scope of what the POA manages and the many people and processes that keep Reunion running smoothly.

It is not a glamorous job. In fact, it is often a thankless one. Board members are occasionally in the hot seat, making tough calls and facing criticism, but those who serve do it out of a deep passion for Reunion and a commitment to making it the best it can be. We are always looking for people with strong business sense such as attorneys, CPAs, entrepreneurs, and analytical thinkers who can contribute their expertise.

The board meets once a month at Reunion Hall typically over lunch for about two hours. In between, there is a steady flow of emails and decisions that need attention throughout the week. The President also works closely with the Executive Director to address day-to-day operations and ongoing projects. Together, the board and POA staff work within the parameters of the annual budget, plan for both immediate and long-term maintenance projects, oversee staffing and performance goals, and listen to residents when issues arise that cannot be resolved through normal channels. It is always eye-opening to see just how much is involved in maintaining the beauty and quality of this place we all call home.

Currently, the POA Board is made up of seven seats. Four of those seats are held by Reunion Inc., the developer, and three are held by resident property owners. At some point in the future, Reunion Inc. will have sold its very last lot and will no longer be directly involved in the community’s operations. When that day comes, it will be up to us as residents to carry forward the legacy that has been built and upheld over the past twenty-plus years. The foundation, values, and standards established by the developer have set Reunion apart, and it will be our responsibility to ensure that level of excellence continues for generations to come

Serving on the POA Board is not easy, but it is meaningful. It is for those who love Reunion enough to want to protect it, improve it, and keep it thriving for years to come. If you have a passion for this community and are interested in serving or learning more about what it takes to be a board member, we encourage you to reach out to the POA office. We would love to talk with you about the upcoming election and ways to get involved.
